After a break following his performances as Amfortas at the Bayreuth Festival in summer 2023, Derek commences his 2023/2024 season with performances of Verdi’s Messa da Requiem with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra in November, before joining rehearsals of Mendelssohn’s Elijah at the Opéra de Lyon, where he sings the title role.

In January and February 2024 he makes his début at the Teatro Real Madrid, singing the Duke of Albany in Reimann’s Lear, performances originally planned for April 2020. He then returns to Canada in February, singing Stravinsky’s ballet Pulcinella with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. Further concerts in March 2024 include a Wagner highlights concert with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall and Stravinsky’s Œdipus Rex with the Munich Philharmonic.

Derek’s major role début for the 2023/2024 season is Wotan in Die Walküre, which he will sing on stage at the Deutsche Oper Berlin as well as in concert with Concerto Köln and the Dresden Festival Orchestra. Following these performances, he returns to the Bayreuth Festival as Amfortas.
